Students Hear Dave "Travelin" Davlin
The first student assembly held in the new Franklin High School Theater was a “bouncing” success. On Thursday, April 17, 2008, Franklin High School students had the privilege of being entertained and motivated by the All-American Basketball Showman and Guinness World Record Holder Dave “Travelin” Davlin. Dave spent forty-five minutes demonstrating his amazing basketball skills and sharing his thoughts on what it takes to be successful in life. He explained to the students how important it is to persevere when pursuing one’s dream even if it requires dealing with repeated failures and lack of support from others. Several students were asked to come up on stage and assist Dave in his basketball wizardry. The highlight of the performance was when Dave spun ten basketballs on his body at the same time.
Dave is originally from Texas and is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in Secondary Education. He now resides in Branson, Missouri with his wife, Traci.
In 1990, Dave set a Guinness World record by spinning 12 basketballs on his body at one time.
He's an inventor, a recording artist, and a communicator to thousands of young people each year. He also stars in his own show entitled "BOUNCE”, in Branson, Missouri.

A Message to Parents from Mrs. Hughes Regarding Princeton Review
Parents,

First of all I want to thank Franklin ISD for purchasing the Princeton Review PSAT/ACT/SAT Prep Online Program. We are committed to helping our students improve their test scores. High scores can help with college admissions and scholarships.
Wednesday before Thanksgiving we had 54 sophomores, juniors, and seniors take either the practice ACT or the practice SAT. After they were finished with the test, the
students had immediate feedback. From this they were able to see where they need to make improvements. I also recommend that students take the test they did NOT take on the 21st (i.e., if they took the SAT on that day they should now take the ACT, and vice versa). After seeing the results for both tests, students should decide on which test they are going to focus.
Once the students are registered with a username and password they are able to access this program anywhere from which they have internet access.
We encourage all students to get registered. They may see Ms. Schultz, Mrs. Groves, Mrs. Liere or myself to sign up.
Feel free to contact me if you would like to know if your child is signed up; I can also tell you how much time your student has spent on the program.
FRANKLIN ISD OFFERS ONLINE SAT/ACT PREPARATION COURSES
As part of their commitment to excellence, Franklin ISD recently partnered with the Princeton Review in hopes of increasing college readiness among its students. With this goal in mind, Franklin High School students now have the opportunity to take a Princeton Review SAT or ACT preparation course online free of charge to them. This course will offer specific instructional strategies that have been proven to lead to greater success on the SAT and ACT. Nationally, students who take and complete The Princeton Review’s SAT and/or ACT preparation courses improve their scores by an average of 140 points or greater on the SAT and 4 points or greater on the ACT.

Princeton Review Online programs take approximately 40–60 hours to complete and include access to extensive support resources. Help is available 24/7 from the Princeton Review Online text-chat coach. Students may also e-mail an expert instructor or call the Princeton Review Tech Support Call Center for additional assistance, as needed.

The Online course allows students preparing for the ACT to take 2 full length practice tests, and students preparing for the SAT to take 4 full length practice tests. Students are provided in depth score reports on each full length test that pinpoint their strengths and weaknesses. Between practice tests, students are guided through the concepts tested on the SAT or ACT and taught how to apply The Princeton Review’s proven test taking techniques to each concept. Students also have access to electronic copies of The Princeton Review’s Online Student Workbook, which includes The Princeton Review’s Vocabulary Hit Parade, a compilation of the most frequently used vocabulary words on the exams.

Stacy Ely, Franklin High School principal, hopes all students will take advantage of this opportunity. Students have already begun registration and a November 21st practice SAT test is planned. If you would like more information about this unique program please contact Janice Knight at Franklin High School, 828-3236.
